Newcastle has been picked to host the 2017 V8 Supercars finale and the proposed circuit through the city streets has drawn keen interest from several drivers. Mark Winterbottom and competitors James Courtney and Chaz Mostert are all thrilled that Newcastle will be the site for the season-ending race beginning in November of 2017 and remaining for the next five years.
The decision takes the final race away from Sydney, where it has been held for the past seven years.
The three drivers were given an advance preview of the proposed course, which will wend its way through the central business district and proceed past notable landmarks Nobbys Beach and Fort Scratchley.
Much work remains to be done on the course, including the installation of safety barriers, but the nature of the circuit, which features a variety of interesting facets, have the drivers itching to get to racing on a genuine street course.
Courtney expressed enthusiastic support as well, saying that Newcastle will provide a superior finish compared to that of Sydney Olympic Park.
